about

Violinist Beca Rathlef, based in Memphis, Tennessee, is an avid chamber musician and wellness enthusiast. She is the Adjunct violin Professor at Union University in Jackson, TN, Suzuki violin teacher at the Germantown Baptist Church Conservatory, and Assistant Music Director at Crosstown Arts.

She appreciates bringing the violin in non-traditional styles and genres to non-traditional places, such as underprivileged communities. She volunteered at the New Dreams Project in São Paulo, where she taught a studio of students from a local community of ages 6 to 34. Some students were also involved in other classes of the Project, such as the soccer, jiu-jitsu and guitar classes.  The project offered extra curricular support for students, breakfast and lunch, and offered an opportunity to the students to develop social skills. She also volunteered in the IBASP Church Community Program.

After using the Alexander Technique to recover from a shoulder injury in her undergraduate study, she became passionate for students' health and well-being. Finding the best use of the body for self expression is one topic explored in her doctoral dissertation.  She pursues the degree in the studio of Timothy Shiu, at the university of Memphis. Her current dissertation is about the application of Alexander Technique in the practice of the Sibelius Violin Concerto.

Rebeca is currently assisting the Music Director at Crosstown Arts with tasks such as organizing events, managing shows, managing social media and website pages, and backstage show logistics. She also assists in developing systems to facilitate and organize data.

In her free time, Rebeca enjoy playing board games and going for walks with her dog.
